About the book Wisdom and Emotion
The book Wisdom and Emotion was published in 1811 at the personal expense of Jane Austen. The name of the author “Lady L.” is written on the cover of the first editions of this book. Wisdom and Emotion was very well received after its publication, and in one year 1000 copies of it were sold and reprinted in 1812.
Jane Austen named the book “Two Sisters, Eleanor and Marianne” in the draft version of the novel. He later rewrote the novel and chose the title Sense and Sensibility for it. By choosing this title, he gave a deep philosophical title to the characters of his story, each of which is a symbol of one of these two words. Sense, who refers to Eleanor, is a symbol of the wise, far-sighted, and somewhat cautious man, and sensibility is a symbol of Marianne, a passionate, compassionate, and emotionally charged figure.
According to the critics, Ms. Austin analyzes the characters in this novel with a pleasant narrative and measures the reactions of reason and emotion in different situations. What emerges from Jane Austen’s novel is that she considered self-control superior to restraint and rebellion.

Synopsis of Wisdom and Emotion
The story begins with the death of Henry Dashwood, Eliever and Marian’s father. Mr. Dashwood is a wealthy man who has been married twice and has a son named John from his first marriage. Eleanor, Marianne and Margaret are the children of his second wife. For some reason, Mr. Dashwood is forced to leave his inheritance to his son John, and in return promises to provide for his stepmother and sisters. But things are not going according to Mr. Dashwood. After his death, his son came to live with his wife and child in a father’s house called “Norland”. Mrs. Dashwood and the girls are guests.
While the family is living together, Mr. John’s brother-in-law, named Edward, comes there and becomes involved in an emotional relationship with Eleanor. After a while, Mrs. Dashwood and her daughters leave home and live in a small villa away from Neverland. Eleanor and Edward separate.
On the other hand, in the new life of the “Dashwood” family, they find many acquaintances. A man named “Colonel Brandon” falls in love with Marianne’s younger sister. But the beautiful and fascinating Marian does not accept this love. Shortly afterwards, she meets another man. Willoughby is a salty young man who falls in love with Marianne. Shortly after the acquaintance of these two people, he was suddenly forced to leave “Dunsher”. On the other hand, there is no news about Edward since the “Dashwood” family came to Villa Berton …
Jane Austen, an introspective writer
Jane Austen, whose name is also spelled Jane Austen in Persian; He was born in 1775 in the village of Stanton in the Hampshire region of England. Not much information is available about his life. Only a few of Austin’s personal letters remain. According to the book’s translator, Ms. Austin has lived in the same Hampshire area since 1809 in Alten and spent the last few months of her life alone in Winchester, near London. The English writer did not live long and died of an illness at the age of 42. He is buried in Winchester Church Cemetery.
Jane Austen’s most famous work is the novel Pride and Prejudice, written a year after wisdom and emotion, which has been the subject of many filmmakers and cinematographers. The novels “Emma”, “Mansfield Park”, “Persuasion” and “Northnger Abbey” are other works of this powerful English author.
Persuasion and Northnger Abbey were published in 1818 after the author’s death. Ms. Austin also left unfinished works. “Sanditan,” “The Watsons,” and “Susan Lady” are Jane Austen’s semi-finished works. “Lady Susan” was a multi-part story based on which a film was made.
On the occasion of Mrs. Austin’s 200th birthday, a celebration was held for her in her hometown. Also, in honor of this powerful writer, a picture of him will be printed on the back of ten pound banknotes from 2017.

Many movies and TV series are based on reason and emotion. The most famous adaptation of this novel is the movie “Wisdom and Emotion” made in 1995 in the United States. Emma Thompson, the famous English actress, wrote the script of this romantic drama based entirely on the novel of intellect and emotion, and she played the role of Eleanor.

Although the series was made in only three episodes, it was able to attract positive reviews from critics and was well received by viewers. Other films and series have been made based on this novel in different countries of the world.
Wisdom and Emotion, translation and publication in Iran
Abbas Karami first translated the novel Wisdom and Emotion in Iran. This translation came to market under the name of Beloved (Sense and Sensitivity). Since then, Wisdom and Emotion, like Ms. Austin’s other books, has been translated several times. Among them are the translations of “Jamshid Eskandani” published by third-party publications and Anqa, and the translation of “Armanush Babakhanians” published by Samir Publications. Also, “Reza Rezaei”, a powerful Iranian translator, translated this novel into Persian again in 2005. This version of the book is not summarized and is uncensored.
Ofogh Publications has also published Aql va Ehsas, translated by Ms. Shahrzad Lolachi, in the series “Classic Romance” in hardcover for teenagers.
