Description

The winter garden is the work of Christine Hannah.

“Winter Garden” is a story by Christina Hannah that in this powerful and heartbreaking novel, the author explores the stubborn links between the present and the past, while illuminating the complex bond between mother and daughter. Meredith and Nina are two sisters who are as different as possible.
One of them stayed at home to raise his children and run the family apple orchard. Another pursued his dream and traveled the world to become a famous photographer.
But when their beloved father falls ill, Meredith and Nina find each other again and are placed next to their cold and mysterious mother, Anya, who now offers no comfort to her daughters.
As a child, the only connection between them was the Russian myth that Anya sometimes described to girls at night. On their deathbed, their father makes a promise to the women of his life: to tell them this legend one last time – and to the end. Thus begins an unexpected journey into the reality of Anya’s life in war-torn Leningrad, more than five decades ago.
Alternating between the past and the present, Meredith and Nina will finally hear the unique and terrifying story of their mother’s life, and what they discover is a terrifying and shocking secret that is the foundation of their family and what it’s like. They know, it shakes.

How can a female know herself if she does not really know her mother? Meredith and Nina are two very different sisters. One stays at home to raise his children to run a family business, while the other travels the world in pursuit of his dreams. When their beloved father falls ill, the two alien sisters find themselves together and in the face of their cold and mysterious mother Anya, who even at this time does not offer any comfort to her daughters.
Their sick father promises his wife that Anya will tell a story to her daughters. A story of fairy tales that he began to tell years ago but never ended. This time he has to tell the story to the end. The story told by their mother is a passionate and mysterious love story that began more than sixty years ago and continued in war and ice in Leningrad and then in present-day Alaska.
