About Walter Tuis, author of The Gambi Minister
Walter Tuis, an American author, died in 1984, a year after the publication of Minister Gambie’s book. From the age of 11 he was interested in science fiction books and during his high school years he wrote short stories for various publications.

Walter Tuis was one of those writers who during his lifetime was never recognized as worthy of recognition and was never named among the best contemporary writers. But the author’s unique pen depicts events in a way that uses natural elements such as the sun in his descriptions, which puts the reader next to Elizabeth’s character in the moment of the minister’s Gambi book and sympathizes with her throughout the period of sorrow, joy, victory and defeat. he does.
For this reason, in 2020, a 7-part series with the same name was aired based on the book, and the book was re-acclaimed. Billiards, his first novel, was published in 1959, followed by The Man Who Fell to the Ground in 1963. His other works include the Far Away (1981), The Enamel Chicken (1980), The Sun Steps (1983), and The Color of Money (1984), which is a sequel to Open Billiards.

Translation of Gambir Wazir’s book into Persian
The book Gambi Wazir of the year 1999 has been translated into Persian by Mahsa Sabbaghi. This translation is very fluent and legible and has been published by Azarbad Publications. Regarding the translation of the book and the use of the word minister, the translator said: “The original name of this book is queen’s gambit, which means a chess move, which is a chess move.” But because of the antiquity of the game of chess and its eastern origin, and because of the difference in the naming of the pieces of the game, I used the minister instead of the queen. Of course, the reason for naming this book is completely in line with its narration and the historical period in which it was written.

Part of Minister Gambi’s book
Beth heard the news of her mother’s death from a woman holding a clipboard. The next day, a photo of him was published in the Herald-Leed newspaper. Photo on the porch of the gray house on Maple Drive; It was taken and showed Beth in a plain linen shirt. Even then, it looked quite simple.

The caption read: “Elizabeth Harman, a child who was orphaned in a chain accident on New Circle Road yesterday and now has an unknown future. Eight-year-old Elizabeth lost her family during the accident; An accident that left two dead and several injured. The child, who was alone at home at the time, was informed of the accident shortly after the photo was taken. “Officials say he will be well cared for.”

He could take only one pill at night and save another. Beth put the extra pills in her cupboard; Where no one ever looked inside. It was enough after using the toothbrush to dry it as much as possible with a paper towel. Or he should not use it at all and clean his teeth by rubbing his finger. That night, for the first time, he swallowed three pills at a time.
There was a tingling sensation from the front of his head to the back of his neck. He had discovered something important. He was lying in his bed in blue pajamas in his bed in the worst part of the girls’ dormitory. He allowed that heat to fill his whole being. His bed was in front of the hallway door and next to the bathroom. The problems of his life were solved: he no longer knew chess pieces and knew how to move and catch them. He had also learned how to feel good in his heart and the painful joints of his hands and feet with the orphanage pills.

Minister Gambi’s novel is a fascinating narrative of the life of a chess player who, in addition to playing chess, has to blur the crises of her life. However, The Minister’s Gambie owes its fame to the miniseries from which it was adapted and released, The Queen’s Gambit, directed by Scott Frank on Netflix.

Despite the fact that a year has passed since the airing of the series Gambi Wazir, the fever of this series has not subsided. Despite the success of the book adaptation series, Minister Gambi’s novel still has its own significance and charm. The story of Gambi Wazir is the most successful work of the American Walter Tuis, whose works have already been adapted into films.

A brief look at the story of Minister Gambi
Gambi is the minister narrating the life of a genius girl playing chess. Elizabeth Harmon is an orphan girl who became interested in the magic of chess as a child, and her future destiny is tied to this intellectual sport. Contrary to popular belief, we are not going to come across a boring story about a page with 64 black and white houses. Elizabeth is a girl who has to fight on two fronts at the same time.

On the one hand, he must fight to win chess, and on the other hand, he must overcome the difficult challenges of alcohol and sedative addiction, as well as the disorders of his private life. In addition, chess during Elizabeth’s lifetime has become intertwined with politics and the confrontation between the world’s two political powers, the Soviet Union and the United States, making Elizabeth a subject for the media and politicians, both in her personal life and in her professional life.

Unreadable words about Minister Gambi’s book
Discover Anima and Animos:
Elizabeth Harmon is Walter Twice’s inner anime. Anima and Animus is a model proposed by the great twentieth-century psychologist Carl Gustav Jung, who believed that everyone has a character of the opposite sex in their subconscious, and named the hidden female character in a man anima. Interestingly, Walter Twice, like his creature Elizabeth Harmon, is addicted to alcohol and psychotropic substances and is also interested in chess. This may reinforce the speculation that Elizabeth Harmon is a manifestation of the author’s inner anime.

The story of Gambi is not a real minister!
After watching the series or reading the book, you probably went to Google to find Elizabeth Harmon in history and did not get good results. Because the story of this book is not exactly based on reality and Elizabeth’s character has not been given to us in exchange for history, but it is inspired by the lives of children, especially girls who grow up in difficult conditions – here orphanage – and relying on creativity and effort. They achieve great success.

The world of details
The details and sub-events of Wazir Wazir’s story in the book are much more than the adaptation series and the audience can enjoy it more because the narrative structure of the book’s story is more logical and more detailed. We can get to know this character better and understand him better with the thoughts, feelings and monologues that go through his mind.

Less censorship in the book version
Minister Gambi’s novel in Iran has far less censorship and omissions than the series, and the details of the story are left intact and more coherent.

A non-feminist work about successful women!
The story of the book has been able to emphasize the ability of women well without resorting to feminist extremism, and this issue can make it a source of inspiration for the literature of the women’s movement. If you take a look at the book, more than emphasizing the feminine characteristics of the first character, it deals with his conditions, decisions and actions as a human being. She is a modern, independent, genius and invincible woman, but at the same time she has shortcomings in her personality and the author has not made her femininity heavier in any way.

The glorious return of the classics
According to Mohammad Taghi Fahim, a well-known art and film critic, the minister’s book Gambi was able to show that the classic storytelling can still be very valuable, and while the classic storytelling style was thought to have lost its value, the successful adaptation of the series was directed. Scott Frank refuted this view, showing that classical storytelling is still popular.

One of the most famous great chess masters in the world, Gary Gasparov, is present as a consultant in the production of the Gambi series. Initially, he was supposed to play the role of Vasily Gorbov (Russian chess world champion in the series), but he was content to appear behind the scenes of the series. The remarkable thing about Gasparov is that he himself won the title of the youngest chess champion in the world at the age of 22.

They have said about naming the series; The queen gambit, in the original language of the queen gambit, has an amazing ambiguity. The Queen Gambi is a very old game of chess in which the Queen’s wing infantry is sacrificed. In the analysis of this name, they write that Elizabeth is the chess queen who falls victim to her love of chess and suffers from loneliness and isolation, while it can be said that Elizabeth is the pawn who is the victim of excessive attention, political interference and atmosphere of her time.

Honors and Prizes Minister Gambi’s novel
Being on the New York Times bestseller list for the book and winning the title of the best American series of 2020 is one of the honors of the work, because without the story of Walter Tuis, such a success would not have been possible. Even the award for Best Actress in a Leading Role in the 2020 American series, given to Anna Taylor Joy as Elizabeth Harmon, shows the power of the book’s characterization.
