Introducing the book Bright Nights, a work by Dostoevsky
The issue of love is intertwined with human life and has a long history with human history as well as art. An issue that can bring the truest joy and the deepest wounds to human beings. In the field of literature, emotional connection and love have been the subject of many works; Sometimes with a vulgar and superficial description and sometimes with a correct and real interpretation that sits in the soul of the audience.

About bright nights; A short story by the author of the novel Crime and Rewards
The book’s name refers to a physical phenomenon that occurs every summer. Countries in the northern hemisphere close to the North Pole do not have dark skies at night until morning, and the air is clear at night until sunrise, as the sun sets. The book, told in the language of the protagonist, is about a love story in the city of St. Petersburg and the bright nights of this city in Russia, which takes place in four nights.

A lonely, dreamy man who has never been in a relationship with a woman accidentally meets a woman named Nastenka. Accustomed to walking in the city and talking about his life and loneliness on the streets and walls of the city, he sees Nastenka staring at the water and shedding tears on one of his night walks.
The subconscious is drawn to him but tries to keep going. After a few seconds, he hears the woman screaming and walks towards her. They decide to see each other the next night, but the past of the two accompanies them and puts their love and affection in complicated and uneven paths.

Dostoevsky wrote The Bright Nights before his deportation to Siberia, and some critics believe that the great author’s writing maturity is less evident in this work. However, in the short novel Bright Nights, Dostoevsky describes the situation of the characters in a way that they can easily identify with, get excited about, and shed tears beside.

About Dostoevsky; The most prominent Russian language writer
Great writers such as Leo Tolstoy, Mikhail Bulgakov, Antoine Chekhov, Nikolai Gogol, and Ivan Turgenev alone can elevate a country to a high literary heritage level.

The gathering of all these writers in one land has led critics and historians to regard the Soviet Union as a meeting place for literary geniuses and a valuable collection of literary texts. Undoubtedly the most important figure among these prominent figures in world literature is Fyodor Dostoevsky.

For a long time, there was controversy and confusion among Persian speakers over the pronunciation of his correct name. Some wrote his name as Fyodor Dostoevsky, until “Khashayar Dihimi” in the translation of Dostoevsky’s biography by “Edward Halt Karr” mentioned the correct pronunciation of his name as Fyodor Dostoevsky.
Fyodor Dostoevsky was born in Moscow in the 19th century. His father was a physician and had a middle-class and intelligent mother. After graduating from the military academy, he worked in the engineering department of the Ministry of War, but later resigned from the army and began translating literary works and appearing in intellectual circles.

He was arrested and sentenced to death after sensitive and deconstructive issues reached Russian security officials. Although he was pardoned and his sentence reduced to four years in prison in Siberia, the execution squad was staged for him and at the same ceremony he was informed of the reduction of his sentence.
Dostoevsky said until the end of his life that he had never been so happy at any stage of his life. In Siberia he became acquainted with the visible and hidden layers of different classes of people and found the sensitive and challenging topics of his books. The acclaimed novel The House of the Dead is the result of this period.

Dostoevsky’s masterpieces include Crime and Punishment, The Fool, The Karamazov Brothers, Bright Nights, and The Gambler. His most famous work is the novel Crime and Rewards. In this book, the protagonist “Raskolnikov” commits murder according to his principles and his conflict with society, family and himself begins.
The psychological and multi-layered characterization of this book is so strong and profound that a psychologist such as Freud acknowledged that a significant part of his psychological knowledge owes much to Dostoevsky’s pen in Crime and Punishment. The author of The Gambler had no academic education in psychology, but his intelligence combined with his meticulous and insightful view of people and their relationships, and he wrote works that are now taught as one of the most important resources in psychology universities around the world.

To date, several films and plays have been made based on his work around the world, and this is evidence of the fact that his mental concerns are appealing and acceptable to audiences with different cultures, races and beliefs.

In this film, “Marcello Stroyani”, the actor who won the Oscar, Cannes and Golden Globe Awards, played the role of the protagonist. The film was critically acclaimed and added another successful film to Visconti’s repertoire.

In a part of the book, we read White Nights
It seemed to me that all the creatures of God had risen to the summer, and the caravan of caravans was fleeing the city and migrating to the summer – it seemed to me that there was nothing left for St. Petersburg to do in the desert, so that at last my heart sank, I was annoyed. And I was embarrassed.

I had nowhere to go and nothing to leave Petersburg for. I was ready to go with each of these carts, to ride in a carriage with each of these respectable and well-to-do gentlemen, and to leave the city, but no one, absolutely no one, invited me; It was as if everyone had forgotten me, it was as if they all considered me a real stranger.

I walked for a long time, wandering in the city until, as usual, I forgot where I was, and suddenly I saw that I had found myself in front of the city traffic jam. A new vivacity fell into my heart, and I passed through the barricade and began to walk in the fields and among the greenery, and I did not get tired at all, and I felt that a heavy burden had fallen from my soul.
The passers-by all looked at me so happily that you said there was nothing left to greet and compliment. It was not clear what everyone was happy about, they were all smoking cigars, and I was so happy I had never been.

The desert was so heartbreaking and rotten for me, a half-sick city dweller in the straits of the city, that you said I had suddenly gone to Italy on a wind horse.
Our Petersburg has a strange, indescribable and very pleasant quality which, with the arrival of spring, suddenly shows all its power and its glorious God-given forces, enlivens and beautifies and colors, and shows all the glory of its sky.

However, it reminds me of a skinny responsible girl who sometimes you look at with pity and sometimes with compassionate love and sometimes you do not notice and look at her at all, but suddenly, as if in the blink of an eye, spontaneously, as you can not describe, it seems like a beautiful miracle. You get excited and amazed at where this electricity comes from in these sad and thoughtful eyes.
