Description

Introducing the book To the lighthouse, the most famous work of Virginia Woolf
Towards the Lighthouse is Virginia Woolf’s most famous work; A novel that is a kind of biography of the author; And Virginia Woolf herself mentions this in her letters and memoirs. Most of the characters in this novel have a counterpart, or in other words, a duplicate of themselves in real life.

On June 27, 1925, when Virginia Woolf decided to write the novel, she wrote in her diary: “I have invented a new name for my books, which will replace the word ‘novel.’

A new name by Virginia Woolf. But what new name? “Lament?” Towards the Lighthouse is actually a lament for her father, a vow for her dead brother, Toby, and her half-sister, Stella, and for her childhood.

Translator Notes
I have little interest in the lives of poets and writers. The year of their birth and death can also be found in memoirs and encyclopedias.

What matters is what they did between birth and death. So excuse me if I do not bring the biography of Virginia Woolf here. Instead, I will mention a few scattered points about the lighthouse, to be helpful.

1. Released to the Lighthouse in 1926.
In the same year, W. بی. The famous Irish poet Yates wrote the poem “Journey to the Infinite”. In this poem, we first talk about a country where young boys and girls are embracing each other and birds are singing on the branches of trees.

“I am a poet” who is old and looks like a scarecrow from being overwhelmed, feels out of this world and tries to cross the seas and reach infinity. When they get there, the sages painted on the wall, among whom the holy flames of God have taken hold, desperately want to burn him and free him from the humiliation of an animal body, and then turn him into a golden bird with wings on the branches. Zarrin should sit and sing about what is past, passing or coming.
At the lighthouse, Mr. Ramzi, a 70-year-old man, boarded a boat with two of his children, crossed the sea, and landed at the lighthouse.

As they land at the lighthouse, Lee Lee Briscoe completes his painting in a moment of intuition, immortalizing that moment. In this way, in both works, the moments of life remain constant and he escapes from being a sponge.

۲. The plot of the story to the lighthouse is simple.
This novel has three parts. The first part – “Window” – is about Mr. and Mrs. Ramsey and their children and guests on a holiday, a day in the last days of September and a few years before the outbreak of World War I. The second part – “Time passes” – is a description of the transformation and destruction of Ramzi House.

The outbreak of war prevents the family from coming. Ms. Ramsey dies, Andrew Ramsey is killed in battle, and Peru Ramsey dies in childbirth. In the third part – “Lighthouse” – ten years after the events of the first part, the survivors of Ramzi family and some guests return.

Lee Lee Briscoe ends his painting, which he started ten years ago, in a state of discovery and intuition. Due to this situation, he manages to see the true meaning of the late Ms. Ramsey, the entire Ramsey family and the scene in front of her in the right connection.
3. In a story about a voyage,
The reader usually expects hurricanes and shipwrecks and the like. But this novel is not an adventure novel and there is no mention of storms and shipwrecks. The lighthouse is a symbol, and the characters in the story are symbolic in the same sense, just as the context of the story and the actions of the people are symbolic.

In fact, the lighthouse code is woven into the taropod of the whole novel. The three-part structure of the book is the lighthouse radiation’s hypothesis. This means that the first part or movement corresponds to the lightning or the first whistle of the lighthouse; The second part or movement represents the distance between the lighthouse darkness and the third part or movement represents the lighthouse’s third irradiation or whistle.

4. The subject of the novel Towards the Lighthouse, like other fluid novels of the mind, is cognition.
It is a means of recognizing the lighthouse that is manifested in Ms. Ramsey. He causes people to know each other’s story and to unite with themselves and others. After Ms. Ramzi’s death, those who have not yet been identified will achieve this by going to the lighthouse. Lee Lee Briscoe is at the same moment that he lights up and finishes his painting.

Ms. Ramsey not only feels the same with the lighthouse, but in a sense she becomes a lighthouse. He spreads light around himself and enlightens the minds and hearts of people. In his presence, dualities and contradictions arise from the middle and darkness disappears. The characters in the story come out of me and become us.
When Ms. Ramsey dies, the house is in ruins and darkness is everywhere. With the opening of each shawl, he dies in that ruined house and the fire of war breaks out.

After that, when the other characters in the story go to the lighthouse, they are guided by Ms. Ramsey’s light, but Lee Lee Briscoe is also guided by her light. Thus, the presence of Ms. Ramsey in the three parts of the novel is like three lighthouse strikes. Because in the first part, he has a permanent presence, in the second part, darkness comes with his death, and in the third part, it is with his memory that the journey is made and Lee Lee finishes his painting.

5. In addition to the secret of union and unity, Ms. Ramzi is also the secret of the goddess of flowers.
Tensley thinks of him as follows: “With the stars in his eyes and the net on his hair, with the claws of Mary and the wild violet … he walks in the flowerbeds and presses the broken buds and the fallen lambs to his chest. Ms. Maknab remembers him bending over the flowers with a gray cloak.

Lee Lee Briscoe portrays her walking through the fields: the fields where Ms. Ramsey disappears amidst the crimson crimson and soft flowers of the jasmine and lily. When James remembers his mother, he thinks, “In which garden did this happen …” and this is a clear picture of the Garden of Eden before the descent, and Mrs. Ramsey becomes an example of a mother. In addition, Ms. Ramzi is described as a goddess of fertility and a goddess of cultivation.

6. The first part of the novel, Towards the Lighthouse, is a picture of the green world of love and beauty in a natural and appropriate context.
In the second part, the destructive forces invade this fertile territory. The background of this section is the chapter and history and the supernatural. The dominant atmosphere is the atmosphere of night and winter, and the emergence of global enemies is embodied in the existence of the dragon. The third part is the story of the return of the characters in the green world.

They are trying to establish pre-war prosperity. What drives their efforts is the deliberate journey that the characters in the story have to cross to reach their destination. The purpose of the trip is to reach the fertility tower, which is located on a rock and is a source of light to the surrounding world at night and during storms.
In the end, it is necessary to mention that the translator has faced many difficulties in translating this great work. Dear friends, Dr. Ebrahim Qaisari, Manouchehr Badiei and Ali Behrozi, have made the translator their hostage with their suggestions and comments. Behzad Zarrinpour also read the translation carefully from beginning to end. The translator considers himself to be sincerely grateful to these dear friends and to wish them in the words of Sohrab Sepehri: May their days be orange!

The story to the lighthouse consists of three parts;
The first part, which also covers the largest volume of the book, is called the window. The window can have different meanings. Maybe a window for us to get to know the protagonists, maybe a window for the protagonists to get to the lighthouse, and maybe the story itself, which is told with different narrators, in other words, from different windows. Narrates with their guests in their own language. This narration has different narrators and this is one of the most prominent points of the novel which is narrated by different narrators. The lives of each of the characters in the story are told in incredible detail in their own language. The life and expression of all of them is shared in Ms. Ramsey, who is the link between all the protagonists.

The second part of the book Towards the Lighthouse: Time Passes is a quick account of the fate of the protagonists over the next ten years, and the fact that Mrs. Ramsey dies, the Ramsey family breaks up, and other small and big things happen.
The third and final part of the story, entitled Lighthouse, goes back to the fact that in the absence of Ms. Ramsey, the protagonists return to the old house, Mr. Ramsey and his sons go to the lighthouse, Lee Lee Briscoe completes his painting in a state of intuition, and Carmichael achieved great fame in poetry. They all find their way and get to know each other. In fact, Ms. Ramsey, who mediated their acquaintance with life, achieves her dream.
