Description

The First Day of the Tomb is a collection of short stories written by Sadegh Chubak, first published in 1965. In the stories of this collection, Chubak depicts the blacks and pains of human beings with an attractive and influential prose. The author’s descriptions, like his other outstanding works, are very brilliant and imaginative, and he addresses the material and emotional concerns of the people in the society of the time with an attractive and fluent prose.

The description of the innermost thoughts and feelings of the characters in a completely open way and without compliments, has given a special charm to the stories of the book of the first day of the grave. In this book, Sadegh Chubak has succeeded in presenting thoughtful and profound concepts to his audience in the form of stories about poverty, love, betrayal and suffering.

But about this collection of stories. It’s a weird book, it takes a lot of spirituality not to read it. It is nauseating, it is disgusting, it is obliterating. Not only is it bitter and terrifying, it is also multifaceted, cruel and exaggerated.

He masterfully introduces you to a world where there is nothing but destruction, cruelty, poverty, hunger, misery and death. The cruelty of human beings to each other, the cruelty of men to women, the cruelty of human beings to animals, the cruelty of animals to animals, the explicit religiosity and criticism of heaven and God, and the showing of poverty and misery are the hallmarks of this book of darkness. It is not even dark, because darkness has the moon and the stars and the windows of hope, but it is absolute blackness and darkness.
Here we can ask a question, the answer to which reveals Chubak’s view of the world. Why can’t Sadegh Chubak be placed next to writers like the great Alavi? When we read the prison sheets, the cruelties of life are expressed so artistically, but we cry with the great Alawite, but we raise them with Sadegh Chubak. Why?

One of the reasons for this is Alawite idealism and militancy. He speaks of oppression, but this oppression has come to a choice. Choosing freedom, choosing books, choosing a better life for the next generation. It is that the audience of Alavi stories has a feeling of admiration and appreciation, but it shows the absolute chubak of poverty and does not follow the roots in this play. He is not political and does not pursue the cause of poverty and backwardness of the people. We strongly encounter algebra in his story. With an atmosphere that does not reach any window from any direction, the struggle is meaningless and the existing human being is low and humble and miserable.
Even the word “refined” is repeated a lot in the Chubak language, which is specific to “Sadegh Hedayat”. Perhaps keeping poverty and illiteracy and ruin apart is one of the reasons why Chubak’s stories are moving. It is as if he is saying to the audience: What it is, it gets worse than this, and you are a convict to see without being able to intervene in changing the situation. In any case, reading this book to touch the world of the writers of the school of naturalism is not without merit. With this introduction, we bring parts of the book to get better acquainted with the author’s pen:

A look at the collection of stories of the first day of the grave written by Sadegh Chubak
_I finally did not find out whose taste it is?

– It does not belong here. They say it belongs to a young man in the top ten. Wow, it has become worldly.

– Goodness and blessings are gone from everything. God willing, my child will be born.

_My tongue, sometimes one does not understand the work of God. How much was this girl beaten in this city? He did not taste it again.

I wish he had been beaten empty. It was not more than one or two months before Mash Gholamreza, the owner of Siahkola, took him and plowed the iron to plow the land. He used to say that the bastard child should not touch the hands and feet of the people. Whatever he did, he did not taste. The dog’s mouth is seven weeks old.

– Mash Gholamreza Adam is a god, I know him. Ross says. He did everything well.

Pp. 14-13

What do you think your wife will do after your death? None. He wears black for a while. You know that young women, even dual-workers, like black clothes. It comes to them. It probably makes sense that the young woman in black mourning herself is very provocative. An immediate person suffers from being deprived of sleep for a long time and gives his life for everyone. And it does not take long for him to bring a thick neck into the house and sleep in the same bed next to him. No, you will die, he will leave the world and live a lifetime with a shaved head.

When I see in this world all that oppression and injustice, I see my dumb tongue all through your eyes. I wish you were doing something so that people would not be so bad. Evil is like a chain around the neck of all people and everyone helps each other to do evil. With all this, the Prophet, why should you wear a bad day on a bad day? If you are Hess, I am the devil and he is always at war with you. Why did you teach him? I now sleep in my own grave and I know that I can not escape death. Destiny is in your hands. But I know that there will be every war and every bloodshed and every catastrophe and disease that will be caused by you. Every sin I committed was your wish.

We were partners in each other’s sins. The same person I ordered to kill the prince. You were my accomplice in killing one by one. If that unfortunate girl became obsessed, you would be a partner. Let me and you eat the sperm of that bastard baby. How is it that the devil can share with us in the seed of no, Bismillah, but you can not? You who do not have a little hand from him.

Why does one have to sleep at night? I do not want to sleep at all. Every time I fell asleep, I fell asleep. I wax the soles of my shoes. I iron my pants. No, let me read a part of Masnavi. Rumi must have worked at night too. And how can he do so much in these six or seventy years? Divan Shams himself works for one Umrah. How could he say so many words in the midst of so many holy donkeys and dung? I think he wrote, but some of them did not reach people. It has not been the case today that they are printing and printing books and throwing them in people’s hands and feet. Surely that poor man was also caught in the mullahs and the holy land.

The general content of the story of the “gravediggers” is a homeless girl who becomes pregnant and lives in a corner of Nemur, and people consider her to be the cause of good and blessings from their business. “Glass Eyes” is the story of a child whose eyes are blinded and who is given a glass eye. The story of “Bouquet” is the story of an employee threatening his cruel manager.
The longest story of this book is “The First Day of the Tomb”, which is also the name of the book with the content of protesting against God. “Awkward” and “A Sleepless Night” show the cruelty of man to animals and their cruelty, and the two stories “Together / and in a different way” tell the story of the cruelty of their fellow human beings, which reminds one of Bong Joonhoo’s snow-breaking film. In those people, the bottom of the train ate small children! “Puppet Sell” is the story of a poor teenager from an unknown prostitute mother and father who do various things out of extreme hunger, but no one takes pity on him and does not give him a bite until he dies of severe snow and cold.

Finally, we do not encounter any kind of opening in any of these stories. Most of the ending is shocking, but it is fair to say that the descriptions are so artistic and vivid that they make one think after the anger and disgust have arisen. Undoubtedly, Chubak also wanted to make the world kinder in his own way. With less superstition, irresponsibility and cruelty.
