The Guardian magazine has also made this novel one of the top 100 novels. (Ranked 72)

Natour Dasht is written in such a way that in the very first sentences, he clarifies his task with the audience and you fully understand what novel you are facing. The initial sentences of Natur Dasht book are as follows:
If you really want to hear about it, perhaps the first thing you want to know is where I was born and what my wheat was like as a child, and what my parents were doing before I was born, and this’s David Copperfield’s nonsense;

But I do not have the patience to define this at all. First of all, these words make me bored, and secondly, if I say something completely private from my parents, the couple will get double-blooded blood.

They are both very sensitive about these things, especially my father.
They are both good people – I do not mean – but they are just as sensitive. Now, I’m not going to tell you the whole story of our misfortune or anything like that.

I am just telling the story of what happened once that around Christmas last year, before my father’s account came, I had to tell it here carelessly.

Another interesting point about this book is that its ninth edition was released in 2014 with 10,000 copies, which is unique in its kind in Iran and shows that Persian speakers also welcome this book.

Summary of Natour Dasht book
The novel’s main character, Holden Caulfield, is a 17-year-old teenager.

Somewhere like a rehabilitation center or a medical center or something like that, he intends to define a few days of his nonsensical life for his psychoanalyst at Christmas last year.

The basis of the novel is the adventures that happened to Holden in three days.

The protagonist of Natur Dasht begins his story from a school he was recently expelled from, but he has kept it a secret from his family and wants to be free until the school principal’s letter reaches his parents, and even to run away from it. The house thinks too.

He had been expelled from school several times before, but this time the story is different.
Then, when he starts a big fight with his roommate, he leaves the dormitory and the main adventures of the book start from here.

Holden’s departure from the dormitory and his entry into the outside world and his encounter with the people of the community, as well as pretending to be an adult, is a symbol of the transition from childhood to adulthood.

Holden is no longer a child and has different thoughts and feelings.

He feels lonely, he feels alienated from the outside world, and he also feels strongly that everything depresses him.

Holden is no longer a child and is on the verge of entering the adult world.
The adults that Holden thinks are all fake and he’s very complaining about them.

Of course, it can be said that Holden is complaining about everything and everyone except small children. That’s why he has a close and intimate relationship with his little sister, Phoebe.

Phoebe plays a very important role in the story, and if it were not for her, Holden would have moved to a different destiny.

The title of the book comes from what Holden likes to do. He does not want to be a scientist, he does not want to be a lawyer like his father, he does not want to be a teacher, or anything else that is considered a good and promising job by an adult, he wants to be a natural plain:

I imagine all of them having small children playing in a big plain.
Thousands of small children; And there is nothing there, I mean a great man, other than me. I also stood on the edge of a dangerous precipice and I have to take anyone who comes to the precipice.

– That is, if someone is running and does not know where he is going, I will find him and catch him. That’s my whole day. ناتورِ دشتم.

One is stunned by the power of Salinger’s words. How can one create such an attractive character, a character that has existed in almost 90% of people at one point in time.

A character who has no introduction to himself or herself and to the audience, and easily talks about the darkest and most hidden events that may be buried in the corner of the mind.

I think it’s the highlight of the book that the author puts Holden in front of a psychoanalyst and tells him his stories.

Excerpts from the text of Natour Dasht book
Life is really a kind of boy game. Life is a kind of game that is played according to the rules
دُرسّه آقا. I know life is a game. I know.

What a game, what a cake, what a wool. Play! If you are on the side of the big heads, I accept the game.

But if you are on the other side, the side that is not big-headed, what does the game mean? nothing. There are no games in play.

When I closed the door and went to the living room, something shouted behind me, but I did not hear what was right. I’m sure he shouted “Good luck!” I hope he did not say that.

I hope from the bottom of my heart. I, who never shouted behind anyone, “Good luck!” If you think about it, you see it is very scary.

I felt something while packing. I should have put this pair of very new skating shoes that my mother sent me two or three days ago in my suitcase. This made me very depressed.
I could have imagined that my mother went to the Spalding store and asked the seller a million stupid questions, and then I was fired here. It made me sad.

She was a funny girl; جینو می‌گم. It could not be said to be beautiful. But my hand trembles. His mouth was wide open.

I mean, when he talks or gets excited about something, his lip flutters fifty times. That’s what I loved.

Honestly, I have no tolerance for the pastor of your congregation. Especially those who came to schools and delivered sermons in a sacred tone. God, how I hate that tone. I do not understand why they can not speak in a normal tone. They seemed very cunning when talking.

If someone does something very well, after a while he does not take care of his work and shows off, and then he is no longer good.
Boy, when someone dies, they sort it out. I hope that if there really are people, there is a person whose mind is in his head and he throws me in the river, or I do not know, he will do anything other than leave you in the graveyard.

That’s because people talk and flowers on Sundays, and this nonsense. What do you want when a man wants a flower?

I do not want to tell you that only educated people and researchers can add valuable things to our world. It’s not like that at all.

But I believe that educated and scholarly people, if they have intelligence and creativity – which, unfortunately, they do not have more than that – are likely to leave extremely valuable works of their own than those with half intelligence and creativity.

They usually express their views more clearly and are usually eager to follow their thoughts to the end.

And most importantly, they are in most cases the most humble of the uneducated and uneducated thinkers. You know what I mean?

Natour Dasht’s narration from Holden Calfeid
Natur Dasht is a novel by Holden Caulfeed, a 17-year-old who was expelled from school and now tells his life story to a psychoanalyst at a rehabilitation center.

From the beginning, Holden begins with a brief, familiar, and, of course, bored tone about his family.

Shortly afterwards, he tells the story of his expulsion from school and the story of leaving the dormitory.

This is the fourth time he has been expelled from school and he has no chance of compensation.

Hold Cafe has three days to go home. He narrates the story of these three days of his life until he returns home.

Three days when Holden narrates his feelings of failure and misery and has no motivation to return home

On the other hand, he does not want his family to know anything about this.

Salinger; Saadi and the meaning of Natour Dasht
In Persian literature, we can see the word natur in a verse by Saadi, “the world saw the old age pass over him / so he said smiling to natur plain”.

The word is used in the dictionary to mean guardian, protector and gardener. Towards the end of the story, Holden tells his sister Phoebe about her interests and the job she enjoys. He explains that I want to be a plain nature.

That is, at the bottom of the plain, where children may be thrown off the edge of the abyss, save them from falling into the valley.

“I’m all imagining thousands of little kids playing in the plains and there ‘s nothing there, I mean a big man, except me,” says Holden.

I am also on the edge of a dangerous precipice and I have to take anyone who comes to the precipice … that’s all I do all day. I had a nature … “.

Holden Caulfield, a popular figure in fiction
Holden Caulfield is a popular figure in American fiction. He is a seventeen-year-old frank, intelligent, troubled and kind narrator of Naturdasht novel.

An emotional and talented boy who does not like the world of adults, because he has noticed the absurd thoughts of people in his community. Holden has a greater understanding of the world and its truth than his age.

Despite his individual talents and emotions, he is aimless and does not see a bright future for himself in post-war American society.
Holden feels depressed and lonely and believes that no one in the adult world is truly wise and mature. She is very interested in children and their success and happiness are important to her.

For this reason, Holden’s intimate relationship with his younger sister Phoebe and his important role in Holden’s interest in his future job can be seen. Holden Caulfeed is concerned with society and the fate of individuals, reads books and thinks.

He himself does not know where his life should go and how it should go, and this has led many teenagers and young people to identify with Holden Caulfield’s character.

About the author of Natour Dasht: Salinger; Isolation, writing and other stories
Jerome David Salinger, better known as JD Salinger, was born in 1919.

He was the son of a Jewish father and a Christian mother, and was born in New York City, like Holden Caulfield, the protagonist of Plain Nature.

After short courses at New York and Columbia Universities, Salinger devoted all his time to writing. The publication of his stories in The New Yorker magazine made the American author famous.

Salinger was a shy, isolated, outspoken person who was less likely to be present in public and less interested in interviewing the media.

Salinger’s life is still of interest to many literary lovers.
He was in the military during World War II, and at the time even met Ernest Hemingway, the great American writer, in Paris. Many of Salinger’s best stories are based on his personal experiences during the war.

He also wrote the book Natour Dasht during his time on the battlefields. Before becoming a writer, Salinger was interested in acting and, like Holden, was not interested in school or even cinema as a child.

How did Holden’s name come about?
Salinger chose the name Holden Caulfield from the combination of “William Holden” and “Joan Caulfield”, the two actors in the movie “Dear Ruth”.

It is interesting to note that the fictional character Henry Chinaski in other Bukowski’s novels and the character of Ferdinand Bardamo in Louis Ferdinand Celine’s Journey to the End of the Night are somewhat close to Holden Caulfield in the world of literature.

Print ban in America!
John Lennon, a key member of the world-famous Beatles, was shot four times outside his home on December 8, 1980.

The killer was a 25-year-old man named Mark David Chapman. After being questioned by federal officials, the killer said he was motivated by the murder after reading Natur Dasht.

In March 1981, the failed assassination of Ronald Reagan, then President of the United States.

After the arrest of the accused, a book was found in his coat pocket, and it was Plain Nature by David Salinger.

For this reason, for several years in the nineties, this book was banned in the United States.

Who better not to read Natur Dasht
From the very beginning of the story, Salinger uses slang and familiar words in Holden’s tone so that the reader can establish a closer relationship with his character and make the atmosphere of the story seem tangible.

But in some parts of the story, inappropriate and slang expressions, sometimes even vulgar words, are used directly.

For this reason, reading this book is not recommended for people under the age of fourteen.

Apart from the language used in the story, there are topics in the book that, in terms of moral content, are not recommended for reading by people under this age.

Salinger in Hollywood
Despite high demand from major film directors such as Billy Wilder, Steven Spielberg and Elia Kazan, JD Salinger was never satisfied with making a film based on his book in Hollywood.

“I can not give such permission,” he told others. “Because he does not like Holden!”
