Description

The baron in the tree, one of the trilogy of “Our Ancestors”, is a book full of improvisation, elegance, sarcasm, romantic moments and the expression of the truths of today’s world in the language of this tree dweller.

The other two books in this trilogy are The Missing Knight and Viking.

Introducing the book Rainy Tree Sitting
The main character of this novel is “Cosimo Laurese de Rondo”, who was the last day that he was at the table with his family on June 15, 1767.

After this day, Cosimo stands in full view of his family and is not willing to continue their way of life.

He “rebels” when he was only 12 years old. But what was the reason for this?

At the beginning of the book we get acquainted with the dry, formal and regulatory atmosphere of the Baron family and see what the family father – who was a local nobleman – and the mother – who was the daughter of one of the famous war generals who later became a general – expected. They have Cosimo and his younger brother, Biajo.

Our mother longed for us to be officers in an army, whatever it may be;

Our father’s hope was that one day we would marry a princess from the imperial family. (The Tree Baron by Italo Calvino – Page 13)

To better understand the parents’ expectations of children, consider, for example, eating. Lunch rituals are performed very carefully and not the slightest mistake can be forgiven.

The movement of the spoons should even be graceful, quiet and confident.
If the slightest sound was heard while swallowing the soup, the situation would be catastrophic.

In the words of Biajo, the novel’s narrator, the commandments “Eat the chicken with a knife and fork, sit up straight, lift your elbows off the table” were not complete.

The Cosimo riot also began at the dinner table. Batista, the daughter of the family, appears to be a nun after being seen in a disgraceful state with a young man, but she is still insane with unsatisfied lust and engages in sadistic activities, including the preparation of strange foods. .

It is another of these foods that Cosimo refuses to eat and rebels when his father is angry.

Cosimo got up and left the room.
-where are you going?

He went to the dressing room behind a glass door and picked up his triangular hat and small sword.

He shouted: – I know where to go!

And ran to the garden.

The moment after the window we saw it rising from the oak. (Book of the Tree Baron – Page 20)

In this way, Cosimo leaves the hard ground beneath his feet and takes refuge in the tops of the trees, making a vow that he will never set foot on the ground.
Now we have a 12-year-old boy who is starting a new form of life and has to somehow learn to live on trees again.

Of course, everyone thought that this was no more than a childish joke and that Cosimo, when he got tired, would go down on his own, so his parents decided not to pay attention and wait for the passage of time to get rid of the tiredness, bad place, cold and darkness of his work. To do.

Cosimo, however, believed that to see the earth better, one had to walk a short distance from it, and the trees were a good place to do so.
Cosimo turns his back on everything and abandons social life among the people in order to create a better and brighter, more humane world with new rules.

So he did not come down, and his younger brother, Biajo, told us his adventures on the trees.

Tree rain

About the book by Italo Calvino
The goal that “Baron” has in mind is to get rid of his past and no longer be the person from whom the values and thoughts of society are not made.

That is why he chooses to live only on trees, but this does not mean separation from humans.

Baron is still interested in people’s lives, and throughout the book we see that he does a lot of work to serve the people.

In this regard, Mehdi Sahabi – the translator of the book who has provided a fluent and perfect translation of the book Baron Darakhtneshin – writes in his introduction to the book:

How can one escape from people and live close to them and for them?

How can one turn our backs on the lives of people and their long-standing contracts, and search for them, and with their help, a new life and a new order?

Baron Rondo answers these questions. The answer is not with preaching and theorizing, but with his life, with his way of life, that everything is possible for man;

Only if he wants to pay the price.

Baron continues to make progress in life as he adapts to the trees: he reads forbidden novels and humanities books and gains deeper insights.

He gets acquainted with a dangerous bandit and gains new experiences with him. He gets acquainted with the general public and rushes to their aid in various matters.

And most importantly, he becomes a kind of guard who plays an important role in times of danger, such as fires.

Gradually, others’ perceptions of him as a crazy person change.

By observing all the things that Baron Rondo does, he can be considered a successful person.

A successful person who helps people well even though he distances himself from them, and transforms even the most evil of them.
But Baron Rondo does not succeed in one thing: in love. It seems that all social relations can be understood and known even from the top of trees, but love can not be understood in any way.

The ending of this fluent and well-read book is also very interesting. In general, we suggest that you read the book The Tree Baron if you are interested in a humorous story that explores the philosophy of social life and the transformation of relationships in which a series of historical events take place.

Sentences from the book The Tree Baron
The afternoon seemed to have no end. Occasionally there was a sound that was often heard in the garden.

The two of us made our way to the garden, hoping he would get down.

Eventually my eye fell on the shaking magnolia tree, and Cosimo climbed over the wall and climbed up.
I climbed a mulberry tree to reach him. Seeing me, he seemed to turn it on: he was still angry with me.

Our mother was in the exact opposite of us. His anxiety, which was acute and painful at first, calmed down a little like all his other feelings, and was replaced by practical decisions to find a solution:

That is what every general does to address his concerns.
As a result, he would take the camera, which I do not know where he had found it, to the porch of our house, mount it on a tripod, stare at its lens for hours, and look at the foliage to see his child.

The outstanding deeds that a person does following his inner temptations must remain unsaid;

As soon as you say it and brag about it, something becomes meaningless and low and worthless.

Maybe no tree is as big as a walnut tree! With what power and confidence does he show himself to be a tree!

With what perseverance does he grow taller and heavier; The perseverance found in the leaf…

Every time I saw Cosimo wandering among the endless branches of an old walnut tree, as if imagining himself walking in the rooms of a palace with several floors, I wanted to go and live like him.

Cosimo spends the night in a leather bag. He had left the tent and the hut at the top of the tree and used to sleep a leather bag with its wool facing inwards and tied to branches.

He would sink his head into the bag, fold his arms and legs like a child, and sleep.

All I know is that if I know more than others, I have to give them what I know if they need it. In my opinion, this is what command means.

Any fever indicates a deeper need that has not been met, a sign of deficiency.
Cosimo’s need for storytelling also showed that he was looking for something else. He still did not know love.

What is the use of ignorance of love, other experiences? What is the use of risking life without knowing it?

He was once again immersed in reading and researching. It was during this period that he wrote the draft constitution of an ideal country on top of trees.

This article spoke of an imaginary republic of trees where only good and honest people lived.

He wanted the article to be about issues related to the law and the government of that republic.

– Why are you suffering?

-because I love you.

Then he would get angry.

-Not. You do not love me. When we love someone, we want happiness, not resentment.

When we love someone, we want only one thing: love, even at the cost of suffering.

– So, you are intentionally hurting me?

-Yes, to be sure of your love.

There was no place for such arguments in Baron’s philosophy.

Suffering is a negative thing.

-love is everything.

– We must always fight with pain and suffering.

– Nothing is ahead of love.

Madness, good or bad, is a natural force. But stupidity is nothing but weakness and helplessness and it does not work.

The military forces, with every new thought that comes their way, bring nothing but destruction.
