The Little Black Fish was considered a political story when it was first published, and its subject matter was very close to the ideas of the People’s Fedayeen Guerrilla Organization of Iran, which is why the group has long used the book as a manifesto.

In 2015, Majid Ismaili Parsa made a film called Little Black Fish with a screenplay by Ali Talebabadi. The film Little Black Fish is the story of a woman named Shahrzad in the sixties, at the height of the guerrilla struggle, trying to avenge her husband’s death.

About Samad Behrangi
Samad Behrangi was born on the 2nd of July 1318 in Tabriz. He completed his studies in English language and literature at the University of Tabriz. Behrangi started translating and teaching after finishing his studies. He went to the cities and villages around Azerbaijan to teach and taught children in schools there. Samad Behrangi was very interested in poetry and because he was fluent in Azeri and Azerbaijani Turkish, he translated the poems of many great poets into Azeri and Azerbaijani Turkish.

Education and culture have always been one of Samad Behrangi’s main concerns. Samad Behrangi was wanted by the police for publishing the book “Torn Books” for a while, but at that time he was also writing under a pseudonym for children.

Samad Behrangi published his first book called Adat in 1339 at the age of nineteen. Later, he published articles in various newspapers with different signatures. In 1998, for the first time after the Iranian Revolution, the stories of Samad Behrangi were published by Ferdows Publishing.
Samad Behrangi drowned in the Aras River in September of the same year at the age of 29 after writing the book Little Black Fish. Some critics believe that his death was not accidental and that he was killed by the Shah’s regime.

Asad Behrangi, Samad’s brother, said of his death: “I heard from a friend over the phone that something had happened to Samad. I went to Kazem Saadati. Kazem was repairing his house at that time. He quit his job, we made sure Samad was drowned. Four people were supposed to go.
Two of my sisters-in-law, myself and Kazem Saadati. In short, we wandered and wandered for two days until we finally found the body. It was like an island in the middle of a river. Some said they had seen him with an officer; But no one knew exactly how it went. The villagers there were very kind and took the body out and washed it. Samad’s body was buried in the Imamiyeh Cemetery in Tabriz. Crowds of people, intellectuals and young people attended Samad’s funeral.

Suddenly the sound of his frogs startled him. The pond frog was sitting on a rock; He jumped into the water and came to the fish and said, “I am here, please?”

“Hello, old lady,” said the fish.

The frog said, “What time is it now, a creature without lineage!” You bring children and you have big professions! I have lived long enough to realize that this is the world. “It’s better to go after the card and take my children out of the way.”

“Even if you do a hundred of these lives, you are no more than an ignorant and helpless frog,” said the little fish.
The frog got angry and jumped towards the little black fish.

You saw a white thread. Suddenly a large boulder fell off the mountain and fell to the bottom of the valley, splitting the water in two. A large lizard, the size of a palm, stuck its belly to a rock. He enjoyed the warmth of the sun and watched as a large walnut crab sat on the sand at the bottom of the water, where the water was shallower, eating the frog he had hunted.

The little fish suddenly saw the crab and was frightened; He greeted from afar. The left crab looked at him and said, “What a fish with literature! “Come on little one, come on!”

The book Little Black Fish, by Samad Behrangi
Writing compelling and lasting stories is difficult for children, but the difficulty of writing in this field culminates when a writer decides to articulate profound philosophical concepts in the form of children’s language, comprehension, as German writer Bertolt Brecht did. Was proficient.

In the history of Iranian children and adolescent literature, writers have also tried to achieve this skill, but few books have reached the fame of the little black fish. A book that, 50 years after its first publication, is still firmly on the list of best-selling children’s literature books.

Farshid Mesghali; Popular Illustrator “Little Black Fish”
The book Little Black Fish was selected for Farshid Mesghali’s creative illustrations at the 6th Bologna Children’s Exhibition in Italy, and Mesghali won the Hans Christian Anderson Prize for Illustration for this book and other works of children’s literature.

“The story of the little black fish is a phenomenon,” Farshid Mesghali said in an interview with the Book City website four years ago about his most enduring illustration, The Little Black Fish.

Phenomenon in the sense that it is an exceptional and special book. Samad Behrangi had leftist tendencies. In any case, he was famous in the political world at that time. The simplicity and brevity of the fish shape and the repetitive elements in the story made me think of doing this.

The book was published and Becky became one of the most popular works of the center. The little black fish became the hero and fighter of the readers of that time and everyone bought it for their children. The illustrations in Black Book are very simple, yet powerful, expressive, and captivating.
At the same time, they have the necessary loyalty and trustworthiness along with the narration and narration of the story. Images do not leave questions. “And they have no ambiguity.”
Farshid Mesghali’s most enduring work is not only his illustrations but also the founding of the art of animation in the center of intellectual development of children and adolescents. He is now 57 years old and lives in California, USA, and illustration and animation are not his only specialties.

Mesghali is also proficient in other visual arts such as sculpture, painting and graphic design. The use of contrasting colors in mesquite motifs makes them very attractive. In 1984, Farshid Mesghali created an image for Nima Yoshij’s poem “You Are My Eye” and after this image, he became responsible for illustrating Nima Yoshij’s books.
