Description

Introduction to the book “Seafarers of the Blue Island” written by Abbas Maroufi (1967), contemporary writer, playwright, publisher and journalist. Marufi has become one of the most famous Iranian writers by writing the novel “Symphony of the Dead” and various works by him have been published so far. This book is a collection of famous short stories that includes four short stories with the letters “Atrias”, “The Last Superior Generation”, “Small Excerpts” and “Several Other Stories”.

Most of the stories in this series were written in the aftermath of the imposed war, and the effects of the war can be traced to the characters. In part of the book “Sea Islanders on the Blue Island” we read: “His head was Meng. Maybe it’s fatigue, or the sound of a car engine spinning in your head. How crowded and cold it was. The wheels of the cars made a sticky sound on the watery snowflake, and people slipped in the form of ghosts in the headlights. If they lift the collar of their coat, put on their shapoo hats, put their hands in their pockets with their mouths open, and the anxiety that ripples through their faces, they become like the painting above the mirror; its beautiful. That tornado painting is also beautiful.
A woman is screaming in that red tornado. One thinks that one is losing weight. Mohsen has amazing tastes. When he is unemployed, he goes to Manouchehri Street or in front of the university to find a good painting and knocks on these walls, but he gets books instead. It is a pity that he does not have the patience to read a lot, sometimes if he turns the page. Tired and dead, he sits in a corner and has tea and cigarettes. I said, “Have you set up a tea and tobacco lab?” “What should I do?” He said in a muffled voice. I said, “Let’s go out for a walk.” “I’m not bored,” he said.

He is a contemporary Iranian novelist, playwright, poet, publisher and journalist living in Germany. Ibrahim Ranjbar
Maroufi, with sufficient mastery of the thousand-year-old Iranian literature, has combined classical and contemporary literature in his stories and has given them a special richness. – By using the fluid flow method of the mind while penetrating the lower layers of the characters in his story, he has demarcated fantasy and reality in order to reveal the collective subconscious of the society of his time. – In her stories, she has revived the identity of Iranian women. In his works, in addition to portraying the life of a failed intellectual, the problems of other sections of society are also reflected, so that he can be considered a writer who came from the heart of the people of his time.
حسین نوین
What sets this book apart from other works is its structure. A structure that is based on a symphonic format with multiple narrators in each movement and is constantly moved between the first person and the third person. This technique can be very effective in telling a story that involves memory.

Excerpts from the book Blue Sea Riders

His head was Meng. Maybe it’s fatigue, or the sound of a car engine spinning in your head. How crowded and cold it was. The wheels of the cars made a sticky sound on the watery snow, and people slipped in the form of ghosts in the lights.
Mohsen, his taste is amazing. When he is unemployed, he goes to Manouchehri Street or in front of the university to find a good painting and knocks on these walls, but he gets a book instead. It is a pity that he does not have the patience to read a lot, sometimes if he turns the page. Tired and dead, he sits in a corner and has tea and cigarettes. I said, “Have you set up a tea and tobacco lab?” “What should I do?” He said in a muffled voice. I said, “Let’s go out for a walk.” “I’m not bored,” he said
“Fereydoun, your mother is dead,” he said. “Do you know?” I said, “My mother?” “Yeah, your mother died helpless.” A car wanted to pass, the peacock leaned against the wall and said, “Let it pass.” I was looking at him. His nostrils fluttered, his hands trembled, and he could not control himself. “I do not understand what you said,” I said as the car passed. “Nothing, your mother is dead,” he said. I said, “Who?” “Yes, just ten or twelve days ago, a few days after you left. One day I found out she was dead. God bless her, what a good woman she was,” he said. I said, “Are you right?” He said, “Yes, yes, but do not grieve for a moment!” I dropped the key and said, “Really peacock, what about you?”
