In part of Clara and the Sun, we read:

As I told Rick, scheduling my trip to Mr. MacObin’s warehouse was crucial, and when I crossed the pebbles for the second time that day to reach the gate of the photo frame, I was afraid that I had miscalculated. The sun had set. And I could not assume that the second and third contexts were easily the first.

I began my journey with the certainty that the shortcut to Rick’s house was like the morning. This time I could use both hands to push the grass, and the insects flew. More insects were flying in front of me and anxiously swapping places, but they did not want to leave their friendly group.
Fearing that I would not be able to get to Mr. McObeen’s warehouse on time, I had to take a brief look at Rick’s house and then take a shortcut I had never seen before. I reached another photo frame gate, and then the grass rose so high that I could no longer see Mr. Macabin’s barn.

The ground was divided into several frames, some larger than the others, and I went on knowing that the space of each frame was different. For a moment the grass was soft and flexible and easy to walk on; I was crossing a border and it was getting dark everywhere, no matter how hard I pressed, the grass would not move and I could hear strange noises around me.
