Ali Sahebi says about the theory of choice:

In general, choice theory explains why and how people behave. This theory explains how the human brain works to emit behavior.

Choice theory holds that everything that happens to us is a behavior:

Eating is a behavior, fighting is a behavior, being late is a behavior, getting angry is a behavior, being sad and depressed is a behavior, worrying and anxious is a behavior, delusions of a psychosis patient are also a behavior .

And all behaviors:

They are motivated from within us and are focused on a goal.

The goal of any behavior is to satisfy one of our five basic needs:

Love and a sense of belonging
the power
Recreation
the freedom
Survival and survival

Choice theory holds that when people fail to satisfy their needs, they act.

That is, they choose certain behaviors and actions so that they may be able to meet their needs. This behavior is purposeful and its purpose is to satisfy the desired need.

Choice theory is a theory based on the psychology of internal control that believes that the past has had a profound effect on our present life, but does not determine our current behavior.

Take a look at the book of choice theory

In my opinion, the goal of all human beings in life is to live better and easier. And everyone takes a specific path to achieve this goal.

One of the ways I have done this is to read books, and I’m sure you will follow the same path.

The book of choice theory helps you a lot to live better and easier.

I have no doubt that your quality of life will change after reading this book, but it may not be easy for everyone.

The topics covered in the book completely engage you and beautifully make you think deeply. But thinking is one thing, and following the teachings of the book is another.

This book had a profound effect on me.

Ten Basic Principles of Choice Theory

In the last chapter of Theory of Choice, William Glaser summarizes the ten basic principles of Theory of Choice and writes about it:

It is through following these ten principles that we can first define and then redefine our personal freedom and authority.

The second principle in the book of choice theory
All we can receive and give to others is information. How we deal with information is our own choice or that of others.

The third principle in the book of choice theory
All long-term psychological problems stem from relationship problems.

Relationship problems are partly the cause of other problems such as pain, fatigue, weakness, and some chronic diseases, commonly referred to as immune system diseases.

The fourth principle in the book of choice theory
That troubled relationship is always a part of our lives today.

The fifth principle in the book of choice theory
The painful events that have happened to us in the past, although they have had a tremendous impact on what we are today, but reviewing this painful past, on what we need to do today, that is, improve our current important relationship, has little effect and help us. does not.

The sixth principle in the book of choice theory
It guides our five genetic needs:

Need to survive
Need for love and a sense of belonging
Need for power
Need for freedom
Need for fun
The seventh principle in the book of choice theory
We can satisfy our needs only through the image or images we have in our desired world.

The eighth principle in the book of choice theory
Everything that happens to us from birth to death is behavior. All of our behaviors are general behaviors that consist of four interconnected components of action, thought, feeling, and physiology.

The ninth principle in the book of choice theory
All general behaviors are usually expressed by the verb, either as the infinitive or the infinitive noun, and with the component that is most recognizable when the behavior occurs.

For example, instead of using the phrase “I’m depressed or I’m depressed, it ‘s right to say: I have chosen depression or I’m depressed.

The tenth principle in the book of choice theory
All general behaviors are choices, but we only control the components of action and thought directly and the components of emotion and physiology indirectly, that is, by choosing the way we act and think, and through them we control our emotions and physiology. We can control.

Dr. William Glaser, a renowned contemporary psychiatrist, has answered the “why” and “how” of individuals’ behavior by presenting a “new theory of choice” in the behavioral sciences.

Selection theory explains why and how living things behave.

The “theory of choice” is based on the principle that all human beings are aroused by five genetic needs: survival, love and a sense of belonging, power, freedom and fun.

In this book, Glaser explains that if we choose effective and responsible behaviors, that is, we learn to meet our own needs well and not prevent them from meeting the needs of others;

We will be happy, prosperous, fresh and fresh, and we will always live life to our liking.

Excerpts from this book:
Cut 1:

Why do some of us choose something that is the cause of our suffering ?!

The best possible choice is not necessarily a useful one. But it seems useful and good when we make choices.

Dr. Glaser has a good example. He says that a young man was walking in a large cactus park, when he suddenly took off all his clothes and jumped and rolled in the middle of the cacti. Did you do the job ?!

And he replies that:

“It seemed like a good thing at the time.”
We all have choices that seem right to us at the moment,

When we were in fear of being alone with someone who led us astray,
In times of helplessness, we asked for help from someone who did not want our good,
We tried to keep someone who has trampled on our soul and personality ….
We have all probably rolled among the cacti.
We choose these harmful behaviors at that moment, but why ?!

Using a set of patterns that may have been learned from parents or others or is an easier choice than to think and find better choices is what drives us to choose to suffer and endure pain.

Believing that it is a frustrating situation and that there is nothing you can do about it has caused so much suffering.

Believing in depression is much easier than trying to get it right,

Believing in anxiety is easier than trying to love someone,

It is easier to believe in despair and sadness than to change direction and start over,

This is because we roll over cacti under certain conditions.

Cut 2:
Not being happy leads people in two directions:

The first group is looking for a way to restore happiness. (Pleasant relationship with happy people)
The second group, however, does not do this. They make enjoyable relationships with happy people; Yet they, like everyone else, seek happiness. These people are always looking for unrelated pleasure and find it in the improper consumption of food, alcohol, drugs, violence and sex without love.

Cut 3:
Ten obvious principles in the theory of choice

We are the only ones whose behavior we can control.
The only thing we can give to another person is information.
All pervasive and persistent psychological problems arise from communication problems.
The existence of this problematic relationship is always a part of our current life.
What has happened to us in the past has a tremendous and undeniable effect on our current situation. But we can meet our basic needs properly and plan to meet them in the future.
Each of us has a quality world of our own.
Everything that comes to mind is just a behavior.
All of our behaviors have a totality that consists of four components, including: thinking, feeling, physiology, and action.
All of our total behavior has been selected. We control the elements and components of thought and action directly, and we control the senses and physiology (physical emotions) indirectly through how we choose thought or action.
All the behaviors of all our kidneys are named by a specific verb or noun and are identifiable, such as depression (noun), depression (verb) or fear (noun), fear of verb.
