About the author:
Roald Dahl (September 13, 1916 – November 23, 1990) was a Welsh novelist and screenwriter of British descent, whose parents were of Norwegian descent and whose heyday as a writer for children and adults peaked in the 1940s. .

His most notable works are Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, James and the Giant Peach, Matilda, and Spectacular Tales and Wizards. Most of his works have been filmed.

He was born in 1916 in Landaf Glamorgan. He joined the British Air Force in Nairobi during World War II. He was a war pilot in Greece and Syria for some time. In 1942 he went to the British Embassy in Washington and began writing. He published his first stories based on his experiences in the war in American publications. But he soon turned to writing for children. His work had a profound effect on English-speaking writers after him.
He won the Whitney Prize in 1983 and died in November 1990. Time magazine called him “one of the most widely read and influential writers of our generation” and wrote: “Children love Roald Dahl’s stories and consider him their favorite author; his stories will be the classics of the future.

Roald saw death many times. He fought in World War II and crashed in a plane crash but survived in disbelief. As a child, his nose was completely destroyed in an accident with his sister’s car, but he returned to normal during the surgery. He finally died in 1990 at the age of 74 from a rare disease called myelodysplastic syndrome.
