Description

Blindness starts with traffic at a crossroads. The driver of a car suddenly becomes blind. Soon, other people, all of whom are patients of the same ophthalmologist, develop blindness. The doctor examines their eyes and finds that their eyes are perfectly healthy, but they do not see anything. It is interesting that unlike blindness, where everything is black, all these people have white vision and …

In the end, the doctor’s wife, who is the savior of the society, asks the doctor why we became blind. The doctor answers I do not know, but maybe one day we will understand. The doctor’s wife answers Do you want to know my opinion? I think we are not blind, we are blind, blind but seeing, blind who can see but do not see.

Blindness is a special novel, an allegorical work, outside the confines of time and space, a social, political protest novel that depicts the turmoil of society and confused people in its sphere of thought and social relations.
Saramago, a Portuguese author, has survived several books, including Blindness, Sight, Notepad, All Names, The Date of the Lisbon Siege, and the Year of Ricardo Risch.

Of course, none of his novels became as pervasive and audible as blind.

Cory Saramago’s novel has many notable features, both in terms of content and writing techniques.

The continuity of the book narrative, which, contrary to the common tradition in many novels, is not subdivided into subheadings, is just one of these features.

This kind of coherence and coherence is consistent with the nature of the story, which is the story of the experience of blindness and the narrative of darkness.

Also, the anonymity of all the characters is still in line with the blindness of the story. When you close your eyes to the world, behaviors and characteristics affect your mind more than letters.

For this reason, in the novel Cory, we come across letters such as Doctor, Doctor’s Wife, Accountant, Gunman, Minister, and Girl with Glasses.
According to Dr. Pejman, when the moral message is in a bold anecdote and the author wants to use all the elements of the story in the service of that message, he removes specific names to increase the focus on the message.

Here are some excerpts from Cara Saramago’s book:
The jokers said it was my fault, and he was right, there was no denying it, but if it’s a relief to him, it’s also true that if we weigh the results before we do anything, think seriously about it, the immediate results first. Consider, then, the possible, possible and imaginable results, we will never go beyond the first point that made us think for a moment.

Angry groups of blind and visually impaired people all rushed to the banks out of desperation.

هم You can not even imagine, the wide and luxurious corridors of the main branch of the banks, the smaller branch offices in different places, witnessed really horrible scenes, we should not forget the automatic cash registers that were opened by force and looted until the last banknote. On the screen of some of these boxes, a corner message appeared thanking them for choosing this bank.
The words are like this, the poor words, they deceive, they cling to each other, as if they do not know where they are going, and suddenly, because of the two, three, four words that are spoken, and it is spontaneously simple, a personal pronoun, an adjective, a verb, One constraint, we see that breaks our resistance and in the face and look, inspires and disturbs our peace, sometimes the nerves can not stand, the nerves that have coped with many things, or coped with everything, so Which we can say is made of steel.

The worst thing is that we do not have an organization, in every building, in every street and neighborhood, there must be an organization. It’s eating this organization, well, how can a blind society [try to survive], by organizing itself,

Organizing means starting vision.
On the way to the girl’s house, they passed a large square where the blind were listening in groups to the speeches of the other blind, at first glance none of them seemed blind, the speakers turned their heads excitedly towards the listeners, and the listeners listened carefully to the speeches of the speakers.

The speakers announced the end of time and salvation through repentance, the death of the sun, the ethnic spirit, the extract of the seal, the order of the wind, the hatred of darkness, the reading of the heels, the sleep of the shadows, the flood of the seas. Cannibalism logic, painless castration, weak vocal cords, word death…

The ophthalmologist’s wife said that no one was talking about the organization here. The ophthalmologist said they might talk about it in another field.

Introducing the book of blindness
Jose Saramago (1922-2010) is a Portuguese writer who won the 1998 Nobel Prize in Literature.

The novel “Cory” is one of Saramago’s most famous books and has been translated into various languages.

In part of the book we read:
The boy Loach had forgotten his address. It is no surprise. He has not taken his mother’s excuse for a long time. If they want to go from house to house, from the nearest house to the farthest one, the first house belongs to a girl who has smoked glasses. The second belongs to an old man with black blindfolds. Then the house of the doctor and his wife, and finally the house of the man who went blind first.

Undoubtedly, they follow the same path because the girl who had smoked glasses is already insisting that she be taken home as soon as possible, saying that she does not know how my parents are. This sincere concern is the rejection of the baseless prejudices of people who, unfortunately, do not believe in deep feelings, including the child’s love for parents, due to the multiplicity of misbehaviors, especially in social ethics.
The night turned cold. There is not much left to burn in the fire. The heat still rising from the half-burned remains is not enough to heat the blind detainees. They fainted from the cold. Especially those who are far from the entrance of the hospital. Like the doctor’s wife and her group.

They are sitting close together, three women with a boy in the middle and three men around them. If one sees them, one thinks that they were born that way. In fact, they look like a single body. With one breath and with the same feeling of hunger. Eventually they fall asleep one after another.

“Light sleep that wakes up several times and falls asleep as a result of hitting this human obstacle.”

Cory Book Review
José de Sousa Saramago is a Nobel Prize-winning Portuguese author. He achieved great success with the publication of this book and it was sold all over Europe shortly after its publication in hundreds of copies.

Cory’s novel is known as one of the most prominent novels of the contemporary era, which has created a world without borders with an allegorical narrative, and it depicts the most important human emotions and feelings.

The story of the book of blindness begins where on a normal day, behind a red light, the driver of a car suddenly loses his sight and disrupts the order of the crossroads, and little by little, this blindness takes over the individual people of the city. Everyone who is an ophthalmologist in the city suffers from this blindness and it spreads in a chain of blindness all over the city and all over the country.
In Cory’s book, we encounter several main characters, including; The wife of the ophthalmologist, the ophthalmologist, the driver who goes blind at the beginning of the novel, the girl with the glasses, the son of Loch and the old man who was blindfolded.

Saramago portrays a horrifying world in his novel Blindness. A world in which blindness is an allegory of drowning in the ignorance and disappearance of contemporary man. A world where trust is meaningless and people are caught up in their lowest needs.

Maybe that’s why reading Cory’s novel is a different and unique experience that captures all the emotions of the audience moment by moment.

Jose Saramago was born in 1922 in a village in Lisbon, Portugal. The Saramago family was initially a farmer but decided to emigrate due to low income and became a police officer in Saramago’s father’s new city. On the back cover of the book is blindness:
Blindness is a modern moral anecdote, and like ancient moral stories, it has moral messages, but for today’s audience. This is why, like those stories, its protagonists are remembered not by name but by an adjective, and at the beginning of the book, by quoting a non-existent work called the Book of Sermons, we are reminded that this novel is a sermon.

Preaching obedience. The world full of filthy and horrible whiteness in which the blind people of the story live is a corner of disorder and chaos that is not ruled by the order of human relations and in which the most important thing that human beings do not see is each other’s rights. Saramago is looking for a saving Christian face to re-teach the lesson of love to people.
