Carlos Fuentes; Father of Latin Literature

Carlos Fuentes was born in 1928 in Mexico. Fuentes, along with Mario Vargas Llosa and Gabriel Garcia Marquez, are known as the fathers of magical realism and Latin American literature.

He lived in different countries because of his father’s job as a Mexican politician. Living in the United States and in Washington DC, he became acquainted with English literature and language. After graduating, Fuentes, like his father, entered the world of politics and served as ambassador to various countries. He was for a time Mexico’s ambassador to France, the Netherlands, Italy and Portugal. But he resigned from the embassy after political clashes in 1968 between students and the military.

Fuentes is one of the greatest Spanish-language writers and has always had great respect among politicians, literary figures. Like Yosa and Marquez, he failed to win the Nobel Prize.

In his speech at the funeral, then-Mexican President Philippe Calderon called Fuentes the pride of Mexico and a world writer.
Given the political context of Fuentes and his family, most of his stories have a political theme. He has narrated his stories by taking advantage of political events, especially the political currents of his country, Mexico. Fuentes’s works are narrated layer by layer, and in all of them, historical events and myths have a special role. His unique writing style gave new life to Mexican literature and established himself as a world-renowned author.

Fuentes describes the way he writes his books: “I am a morning writer. I start at eight-thirty and continue writing with the pen until twelve-thirty, and then I go swimming. Then I go back and have lunch and read a book in the afternoon. Then I go for a walk to get ready to write the next day. I have to keep the whole book in mind before I start writing … I know exactly what is going to happen, more or less everything remains the same. “At these times, I sacrifice the element of surprise within myself.”

We read in parts of the book Aura:

You read the ad in the newspaper. Such an opportunity does not happen every day. You read and you read again. As if it is not addressed to anyone but you. You don’t even notice the cigarette ash spilling into the cup of tea you ordered at this cheap, dirty cafe. You read it again, “Employment Announcement: A young, serious, disciplined historian. “Complete command of colloquial French.” Young man, fluency in French, someone who has lived in France for a while, comes first … “Four thousand pesos a month, full food, comfortable room to work and sleep.” Only your name is empty.

The ad was supposed to have two more words, two capital letters: Felipe Montreux. Needed: Felipe Montreux, former Sorbonne Scholar, historian full of useless information, digging into yellowed labels, part-time private school teacher, nine hundred pesos a month. But if you saw such an ad, you would be suspicious and take it as a joke. Address, Donsless 815. Phone number is not available, see in person …

You put a reward on the table, you pick up the bag, you get up.

The idea that perhaps another young historian, right in your position, saw the same thing, has overtaken you and is now getting the job. You go to the crossroads and try to forget the thought. While waiting for the bus, you review the dates that need to be present and ready at the tip of your tongue for the sleepy students to respect. The bus is approaching and you are staring at the tip of your black shoes. You have to be ready.
You reach into your pocket, wander among the coins, and finally pull out thirty cents,You grab the handle – the bus slows down but does not stop – and you turn up. Open the way with a push, you give the driver a centaur, you place yourself among the passengers standing in the middle of the bus, you hold the handle above your head, you press the bag tighter under your left arm and involuntarily put your left hand in the back pocket where your banknote is.
