Description

Introducing A Very Easy Death book
“A Very Calm Death” is a work by Simone de Beauvoir about the last days of his mother’s life. The mother falls to the ground in her house. The thrust breaks and the neighbors take him to the hospital. Also, the symptoms are similar to those of a heart attack or stroke, and some time later doctors inform Simon and his sister that their mother has bowel cancer. This story is narrated by Simon himself and with his narration we travel to the past and present of a woman who has gone through many events to be the mother of two daughters, a wife and a lover. “When a loved one dies, we pay the price of survival with a thousand regrets and regrets. It is with the death of a loved one that his unique oneness is revealed to us.

He expands as much as the whole world, a world that his absence destroys for him, while his presence gives it meaning.

We constantly say to ourselves that we wish we had dedicated more moments of our lives to him, maybe the moment of our lives. To our relief, we say that he was a human being like any other human being. But since we never do our best – even the maximum we are determined to do – there are always reasons to blame ourselves.

We neglected our mother and did not pay any attention to her, especially in recent years. “Our idea was that with our strong presence in the last days, with the peace we gave him, and with the reduction of fear and suffering, we made up for these mistakes and negligences to some extent.” In this work, De Beauvoir tells of a man who is still longing to live but is trapped by his suffering body and eventually has to surrender. “There is no natural death,” he writes at the end of the book. What happens to human beings can never be natural, because human beings question the world. Everyone dies, but the death of every person is a tragedy for him. “Even if he recognizes it and tolerates it, it is still unjustified violence.”

On the back cover of Death is very calm:

But no, man does not die because he was born, lived and grew old, but because he dies. Knowing that Mom was close to death because of her age did not detract from this horrible surprise; He had a cancerous gland. Arterial occlusion cancer and lung failure are as brutal and unpredictable as a plane engine failure in the sky. In that isolation, my mother encouraged everyone to be optimistic, and she knew the value of every moment. His vain insistence also unveils the reassurance of everyday vulgarities. There is no natural death…

Quotes from the text of a very quiet death book

He lived against himself. He was full of enthusiasm, but he did his best to push it back.

The only thing that relieves me is that, I will go this way too, otherwise how unfair it was !! Yes, this was an exercise in our own burial, and how bitter is the common destiny that everyone must experience on their own.

When a loved one dies, we pay the price of survival with a thousand regrets.
But since we never do our best – even to the maximum extent we are determined – there are always reasons to blame ourselves.

What impressed us that day was his attention to the little joys of life! It seems that at the age of 78, he has just discovered the miracle of life.

A very quiet death

Dear death and facing it, in addition to loneliness and grief, is accompanied by fear and lethargy that hurts every human being. This pain is more severe at the time of the mother’s death and more difficult to believe.

Simone de Beauvoir, a leading author of French literature, narrates his and his family’s memories of the last days of his mother’s life in The Silent Death. A death that inherited an unforgettable grief for the survivors: “They follow me, I run, I go and I hit a wall, I have to jump off a wall, a wall that I do not know what is behind it and I am afraid.”

About the book Silent Death

“On Thursday, October 24, 2014, at four o’clock in the afternoon, I was in my room at the Minerva Hotel in Rome. I was to return by plane the next day, and I was sorting through the papers when the phone rang. It was Boost and he called me from Paris and said, “Your mother had an accident.”

This tragic event led to the publication of A Very Easy Death in 1964. Prominent twentieth-century European writer Simone de Beauvoir portrayed the feelings of his sister and mother over the weeks leading up to a tragic event that ended in his death.
In this work, he expresses the memories and feelings of his family members in the last weeks of his mother’s life and turns a real event into a readable story with eloquent and powerful language. In the book “Slow Death”, he uses death from the philosophical point of view as the basis of his story and introduces the main characters of his life into one of his lasting novels. He narrates the final and difficult moments of his helpless mother’s life, which suddenly goes out like a candle, and recounts his feelings and emotions with his own pen.

In a part of the book Death, we read:

The next day, Mom’s mouth was still crooked, her long eyelids covering her eyes, and her eyebrows trembling. His right arm, which was broken twenty years ago when he fell off a bicycle, was badly injured, and a recent accident injured his left arm. He could barely shake them. Fortunately, they took care of her carefully. His room overlooked a garden away from the hustle and bustle of the alley, and his torso rested on a pillow, so he sat longer than lying down, so that his lungs would not get tired.

Also, his rubber mat, which was connected to an electrical device, vibrated and massaged him, thus preventing wounds and blackening of the body. Every morning, the massage therapist moved his legs.
The dangers indicated by Bust seemed to have been eliminated. In a slightly sleepy voice, my mother told me that the nurse had chopped her meat and helped her eat, and of course the food was excellent, while she had been given potatoes in Bosico. He talks a lot more than yesterday. He kept repeating the story of the two hours of anxiety, in which he crawled on the floor and wondered if he could reach the wire and pull the telephone in front of him. “Fortunately, there is a telephone,” I said to Mrs. Marshall, who also lives alone. “And he replied, ‘It’s just up to you.’ Mom repeated the last words several times in a wise tone, adding: “If I had not called myself, I would have done my job.”

Could he shout so loud that they could hear his voice?

Certainly not … I remembered his helplessness. He believed in that world, but in spite of his old age, disability, and anxieties, and he was deeply attached to this earth and instinctively feared death.
Also, he recounted a recurring nightmare to my sister: “They follow me, I run, I go and I hit a wall, I have to jump off a wall, a wall I do not know what is behind it and I am scared.” He also told my sister, “I am not afraid of death itself, I am afraid of post-mortem questions.” When he crawled on the floor, he must have thought it was time to ask. I asked him, “Did it hurt a lot when you fell?” “No, I do not remember. “I did not even feel pain.” thought to myself: after he was gone, he remembers feeling dizzy. He added that a few days ago, after taking one of his new medications, he felt that his legs were out of control: that he had been lying on his couch for so long.
