About the book A mercy
The book was first published in 2008 under the title A Mercy.

A forgiveness comes at a time when North and South America have begun the slavery industry.

Jacob Wark, an Anglo-Dutch businessman, is forced to accept a slave girl named Florence as part of his demand for farming in Maryland. Florence can read and write, which is why Jacob thinks his presence on his land could be useful.

Florence is rejected by her mother but seeks love. He first goes to Lina, his master’s old maid, and then to a charming African blacksmith who has never been a slave. He suddenly enters the lives of the characters in this story.

In this story, Tony Morrison goes to the underlying layers of slavery. But maybe the essence of the story goes back to the same mother and daughter. A mother who is forced to leave her to save her daughter and a girl who can not be separated from the suffering of this liberation …

Part of the book A mercy
They had six children; The two of them were big enough to sit on a chair. The same quiet children sitting at the table like statues. Thirteen, fourteen years old and like a father with a wig, just like everyone is in court.

Jacob thought he would have no survivors; Child or anyone else. Now that his daughter Patricia had gone to her dead brothers, there was no one left to take the considerable inheritance she was interested in collecting. Mr. and Mrs. Di Ortega met;

They were brainless and lustful. A man and a woman who cared more for pewter and porcelain utensils than for their sons! It was quite clear why Diavertga was on loan;
Turning the profits from his business into unused jewelry, not avoiding financial troubles by saving and avoiding waste, expensive silk socks and a woman with lots of clothes, wasting candles at noon, and that he could not always afford the increase. Pay for the consumption, let alone if the issue of a wandering ship or products is gone.

Jacob realized that they were not looking at each other. The looks were completely sneaky and were done when the other person was looking elsewhere. He could not say what was in those sneak peeks, but in addition to their stupidity, their incomprehensible talk, as well as their inedible food, his condition shifted to predict the worst.

Excerpts from the book A mercy

He learned the intricacies of loneliness: the horror of skin color, the roar of silence, and the danger of familiar and immobile objects.

I’m a little afraid of freedom. Is this really the feeling of a free person? If so, I do not like it. I do not want to be free from you, because I live only with you.

We can never change the world and it is the world that changes us.
